About

This document is to support the onboarding of a Nurse Practitioner (NP) team member in the GAIN clinic. This document will be used to help guide NP orientation from a GAIN Regional perspective. There may be site to site variation and host site organization obligations and expectations around NP orientation. By the end of regional orientation, the new NP will develop proficiency in their role in specialized geriatrics. They will understand their role within GAIN and involvement in completion of a Comprehensive Geriatric Assessment (CGA). They will have awareness of Specialized Geriatric Services (SGS), GAIN network, both hospital and community-based services as well as how to engage and refer to community partners. The timeline for completion of this document is geared towards 3 months of orientation however this may vary depending on organization probation periods and individual education and support needs. Direction from their direct report, usually Manager/Director, will meet with the NP team member at regular intervals to discuss their progress and needs. A suggested timeline 1 week, 1 month, 3 months. Many activities are web-based and will require internet access as well as sufficient work release time to complete. Access all orientation documents using the supplied URL. It is suggested to move through the document in a systematic approach to support knowledge acquisition in this format.
