About
This document is to support the onboarding of a new Interdisciplinary (IP) team member in the GAIN clinic. There may be site to site variation and host site organization obligations and expectations around IP orientation. By the end of regional orientation, the new IP team member will develop proficiency as a geriatric assessor. They will understand their role within GAIN and involvement in completion of a Comprehensive Geriatric Assessment (CGA). They will have awareness of Specialized Geriatric Services (SGS), GAIN network, both hospital and community-based services as well as how to engage and refer to community partners. As they move through their orientation, they will be paired with other members of their team for support as well as connection to other team members at other site(s) within the GAIN network. The peer support colleague will support with feedback and in seeking orientation opportunities for the new IP team member. For the “Clinical Skill Building” section of the orientation, we suggest time between completion of the different assessments to allow time to digest the process and obtain feedback. It is also suggested that the Triage orientation component begin only after the new IP team member is approaching the end of their orientation. They will need to understand the core work to have the skill and knowledge to complete triage. The timeline for completion of this document is 3 months, however, this may vary depending on organization probation periods and individual education and support needs. Direction from their direct report, usually Manager, will meet with the new IP team member at regular intervals to discuss their progress and needs. A suggested timeline 1 week, 1 month, 3 months. Many activities are web-based and will require internet access as well as sufficient work release time to complete. It is suggested to move through the document in a systematic approach to support knowledge acquisition in this format.
